Carlisle
The historic Nicholas County Courthouse was built in 1893 and was originally the site of the Kincart’s Peach Orchard. For many years the Annual Blackberry Festival has been held in the courtyard. The entire community would sit on the streets of Carlisle for hours of fun. The festival features rides, food, music, games and a variety of crafts. 2007 was the last time the festival was held in the courthouse yard, as it moved to the Nicholas County Fair Grounds.
Carlisle is also home of beautiful Lake Carnico were you can swim, go boating, fishing, play golf and enjoy the Country Club restaurant which is now open to the public. Whitaker Bank is a proud sponsor of 4-H camp located at the Lake Carnico North Central 4-H center. The camp is operated by the University of Kentucky and offers cabins, a swimming pool, obstacle courses, canoeing, crafts and an array of other summer activities to children 10 – 18 years of age.
In the month of June, Whitaker Bank sponsors the annual Nicholas County Relay for Life held at the track of Nicholas County High School. Not only is Whitaker Bank-Carlisle the corporate sponsor, but the employees of the bank also enjoy being a part of the team to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer.
Whitaker Bank is proud to be a part of Carlisle, the small town with a big heart!
