Clay City
Clay City is located in Powell County. One tradition says the town was named for statesman Henry Clay but it is more likely that the name came from local clay deposits. Located at the foothills of Eastern Kentucky, the area has a lot to offer to those who enjoy the outdoors.
Some points of interest in Clay City are the Red River Museum, which contains artifacts from the area’s iron, logging and railroad industries. If music is your love, visit Meadowgreen Park Music Hall, where you will find Bluegrass music performed by top names and locals. Clay City is also known for the Mountain Parkway Dragway—drag racing at its best since 1963. You could also check out the Pilot Knob Nature Preserve, where Daniel Boone first stood and viewed the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky in 1769.
